Nelson and Winslow
Bringing a beloved personal project to life, we partnered with Witty Webb to illustrate and design a children’s book series inspired by their dachshunds, Nelson and Winslow. The goal was to capture the dogs’ personalities in a bright, playful style that children would love, while laying the foundation for a cohesive multi-book series.

Problem
Our client had been developing the idea for a children’s book series centered around Nelson and Winslow, their dachshunds. They had a deeply personal vision, and it was important that the illustrations authentically reflected the dogs while also aligning with the whimsical tone of children’s literature. The challenge was to balance personal likeness with a universal, engaging design style.

Process
We began with a detailed ideation phase to define the book’s style guide—including typography, color palette, and illustration direction. From the outset, we planned for a series, not just a single book, so we created a flexible visual identity system to scale across future titles.
One key element was designing a binding system: each book features a solid color spine and a unique icon that represents the story. When placed together on a shelf, the series forms a cohesive visual collection, creating a sense of continuity and collectability.

Solution
By developing a consistent design framework, we ensured the book could feel both personal and professional. The illustrations captured Nelson and Winslow’s charm, while the playful identity system created a strong foundation for future expansions.
This approach gave the client confidence that their passion project could grow into a sustainable series with a recognizable brand presence.

Results
The first book launched with a surprise party for the client’s friends and family, where it was met with enthusiasm and support. Beyond personal success, the book is now carried in local pet stores and gift shops in Marion, reaching a wider audience.
The collaboration was so successful that we’re already working on the next installment in the series—proof that Nelson and Winslow’s adventures are just getting started.
